Grounding techniques are powerful tools for staying present, calming your mind, and building emotional resilience. These techniques provide ways to stay focused and centred during challenging moments—whether in the workplace, as an athlete or dancer, or simply in everyday life. 


Recognizing the strong interest in our grounding resources here on The SPRINT Website, we’ve brought them together to make it easier for you to explore and access them. You might be wondering when or why to use grounding techniques. Well as you can see here, they’re invaluable for managing stress, enhancing mental skills, and boosting self-awareness—and they’re versatile enough to be used anytime, anywhere.

The 5-4-3-2-1 Technique - This sensory-based exercise helps you reconnect with the present moment by focusing on what you can see, feel, hear, smell, and taste.

The Bear Hug Technique - A comforting way to practice self-care by giving yourself a hug or wrapping up in a blanket.

The Categories Game - Distract and refocus your mind by picking a category and listing as many items as you can.

Counting Backwards- Use subtraction to focus your thoughts. For example, count backward from 100 by 7s.

Deep Breathing - Regulate your nervous system with deep, mindful breathing—inhale, hold, and exhale slowly.

The Short Walk - Step away for a brief walk, indoors or outside, while focusing on the sensation of your feet connecting with the ground.
